A native of Fort Lauderdale, Mr. Lochmaier founded Island Capital in 2000 after a successful decade of experience working for Wells Fargo Bank as a regional manager. Merrill’s entire 30 year career in banking has been almost entirely concentrated in private banking as it relates to finance for high net worth individuals.
Mr. Lochmaier started his banking career as a commercial loan officer with Imperial Savings based in San Diego, CA. He was subsequently recruited to join DSL Capital Corporation as Vice President of Real Estate Investment Banking.
At the firm, Mr. Lochmaier was responsible for originating commercial real estate financings for placement into the public capital markets utilizing credit enhancement from instruments provided by money center banks. At DSL, Mr. Lochmaier successfully originated and placed over $250 Million in financings. Mr. Lochmaier was also responsible for company relationships with Manufactures Hanover, Sumitomo and Chemical banks.
In 1990, Mr. Lochmaier was recruited to join Wells Fargo Bank as Regional Manager of Private Mortgage Banking. Mr. Lochmaier spent the next decade at Wells sourcing private banking relationships and funding real estate transactions for high net worth individuals. Mr. Lochmaier was responsible for managing these activities for the State of Florida with numerous employees and offices throughout the state.
In 2000, Mr. Lochmaier decided to leave the bank and form Island Capital for more flexibility in the types of financings performed for his private banking clients.
Mr. Lochmaier completed his undergraduate studies with majors in Physics and Computer Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology. He subsequently completed the MBA program at The University of California at Irvine. Mr. Lochmaier is active in the Purple Heart Veterans of Florida charity as Co-Chairman.
